No words needed from me – all the rest of the pics here.

But just wanted to remind you of this:

The United Nations
The UN sets global standards for human rights. But right now it has no single agency with the resources to work globally to improve the status of women.

VSO is campaigning for a new UN agency to help more women earn an income, like Shiasta. This agency will also help women grow more food for their families, access healthcare and have a say in decisions that affect their lives. And it will ensure governments keep their promises about treating women equally.

There are four outfits I could kill for in those photos.

I just love free flowing colourful clothes.

Thanks for joining in the day’s events. I really hope and pray and work toward good things for African women and women the world over.

These pictures give me goosebumps. It is so inspiring to see beautiful Bamenda women smiling and marching with pride. :)

DG – must admit – as good as they look on Africans I had made a personal promise to myself that I will never wear any African attire. I’ve seen expat guys all dressed up in African threads and I’ve been embarassed for them.

Kind of reminds me of that film European Vacation of the Griswald family all buying berets when they go to Paris so that they “fit in”.

But it was some sight yesterday.

BB it was actually quite inspiring – I started out with my usual cynicism about these events – and I still wish there was a wider message than just marching. Where are the messages, where is the education etc.

But having said that – I think it was the Okada driver on the way home that made me realise it was more – he said he was cooking the dinner tonight for his wife – because it was Women’s Day.

Anyone who knows African men knows what a victory that is. Out of small things….

Thanks Steve, nice to see that some developing countries do something for women’s day other than give women flowers!

can you tell me more about the okada driver and what he said? for instance, was he happy or upset about cooking or just neutral about it? i am dying to know more. :)

It’s nice to see my colourful and beautiful women from home. The theme for the day which was calling on everybody to work together for the future generation.
I just wish that the spirit of the theme should flow in the viens of all Cameroonian, so that together, we can change the mentality of the people for the good of everybody and not a few.

    God Bless Our Fatherland.

Rosemary living in London and hoping to be in Bamenda again soon.
